Product Description The Linksys WRT54GL Wireless-G Broadband Router combines the functionalities of three devices into a single device, a wireless access point, a four-port full-duplex 10/100 Mbps switch and a router. The wireless access point lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network while the switch connects your wired-Ethernet devices together. The router function ties it all together by letting your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. The push button setup feature makes it easy to configure your wireless devices. The router serves as a DHCP server, includes an SPI firewall to protect against Internet intruders and also supports VPN pass-through. The WRT54GL even features TKIP and AES to protect your data and privacy with up to 128-bit encryption. With the Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router at the center of your home or office network, you can share a high-speed Internet connection, files, printers and multi-player games with flexibility, speed, security and simplicity. Great Wireless Router January 2, 2009 I've been using this router for more than a month now without a single problem. The signal is strong anywhere in the house (3000 sq.ft.)and it seems just as fast as the direct cable modem connection.
There's one drawback for Mac users like me. The set-up wizard CD doesn't work with Mac OS X. I had to call Linksys tech support. The Tech was very helpful, knowledgeable and kind, walking me through the set-up procedure step by step which took maybe 10 minutes or so.
I decided to buy this router by reading the numerous online reviews and watching some video reviews, while keeping cost comparisons in mind. I feel that this router is a great value and from what I've been hearing from my computer "techie" friends, Linksys has a reputation for making quality products.
not so good December 26, 2008 0 out of 3 found this review helpful
After a long time using this router, I finally found out why the connection keeps falling.... My cordless phone works in the same frequency (2,4ghz) as the router, they can't work together... so everytime the phone is used, I loose my wireless internet connection...
Wireless Router Linksys WRT54GL December 22, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Since I didn't know anything about installing a wireless router, I waited for my family on Thanksgiving for help. With the help of family, the installation took us no longer than 20 minutes. No problems either.
My first and only router December 21, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this router two years back and NEVER had to reset the router even once!! Never had a disconnection and this in spite of being a heavy user (over 10G/month of internet usage) of the internet.
I will never use any other router in my life. I don't know when this router will fail but when it does, will no doubt buy another WRT54GL.
Great Router December 20, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
Before using this router I was using Belkin 54 G wireless router which was real pain. The connection used to drop quite often and the router had to be reset at least twice a week.
On the other hand Linksys WRT54GL proved to a solid and reliable router.Installation was really easy. It's been close to six months since using this router and not even once it had to be reset. The browsing and download speeds are excellent. The router supports third party firmware such as Tomato or DD-WRT. These firmwares give you a host of options such as increasing the signal strength. Finding the channels on which other wireless networks in your range are operating and host of other functions.
